The level of excitement around the new FOZ
mini-sprint was recently kicked up a notch as builder John Godfrey
debuted his new midget at the USAC 4 Crown Nationals run 9/24 & 9/25 at
Eldora Speedway. FOZ Race Cars', Larry Fasse commented, "Although
I am sure it will not match the excitement of seeing our first
mini-sprint roll onto the track in the next few weeks, seeing how well
the midget performed right out of the box and knowing that the
mini-sprint is nearly identical to the midget--really gets me excited
about the mini-sprint's release."
The FOZ mini-sprint is part of a three
pronged attack on the open wheel market by Godfrey and his staff.
The attack includes sprint cars which will be marketed under the Chalk
banner, midgets marketed under the Spike Chassis banner and upright
mini-sprints marketed under the FOZ Race Cars banner.
Godfrey's midget arrived at Eldora on Friday
afternoon without ever turning a wheel on any track. Increasing
tensions further was the missed opportunity to hot lap the car.
Having never set in the car, Swindell turned a lap in qualifying
that was a few tenths of a second off the new track record set by Mike
Hess, placing him mid-pack. Despite missing the gearing, the car
looked very stable at speed on the high bank half-mile track. In
heat race action Swindell was able to turn the wick up and smoothly
maneuver to a third place finish, placing him solidly in Saturday night's
feature.
Throughout the night the new midget drew
much attention from racers, car owners and fans alike. "It has
been neat to see the response the car is getting. Most importantly
for us, I think it has really wet the appetite of some of the mini-sprint
competitors who attended tonight's race", commented Fasse. Stay
tuned for additional news on the FOZ mini-sprint in the coming days. |
